Erg Chigaga Desert & Atlantic Coast
A private 9-day journey through Morocco’s Erg Chigaga Desert and Atlantic Coast — far beyond the classic tourist routes. From Marrakech and the High Atlas to Erg Chigaga, then the wild shores of Legzira Beach.
This Erg Chigaga Desert and Atlantic Coast tour is built for travelers seeking a deeper side of Morocco. It goes well beyond the standard desert loop. The route begins in Marrakech, crosses the High Atlas Mountains, and pushes on to one of the Sahara's most remote dune fields.
What makes this 9-day itinerary distinct is the shift that follows. After nights in the Erg Chigaga dunes, the route turns west toward the Atlantic. Legzira Beach and its reddish-orange rock arches replace golden sand with open ocean. Few Morocco itineraries attempt this contrast in one trip.
Along the way: kasbahs frozen in time, silversmiths in Amezrou, and a night sky thick with stars. A coastline still quiet enough to feel undiscovered awaits at the end. This is Morocco deserts and beaches travel done properly, not rushed between two checkboxes.

One day you are wandering the lively souks of Marrakech. A few days later, you're crossing silent desert plains beneath a sky with no city light to dull it. Ancient caravan routes lead toward forgotten kasbahs, then the Sahara gives way, without warning, to the Atlantic Ocean.
What defines this trip isn't any single stop. It's the shift between them. Mountain roads, desert tracks, a remote camp under Erg Chigaga's dunes. Then coastal cliffs and the sound of waves at Legzira. Few routes in Morocco cover this much ground, or this much contrast, in nine days.

Day by Day
Nine days, one continuous route — from the Sahara's dunes to the Atlantic's shore.
Arrival In Marrakech
A warm welcome at Marrakech Menara Airport, then a transfer to a charming riad in the heart of the Medina. Spend the evening wandering the city at your own pace. A multi-course welcome dinner follows, with traditional music and dance.
Discover Marrakech
A private guide leads you through the Bahia Palace, the ruined Badi Palace, and the Saadian Tombs. These tombs are the resting place of 16th-century royals. Visit the Medersa Ben Youssef and the lesser-known Douiria, then spend the afternoon in Marrakech's bustling souks.
Marrakech → Ait Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate → Zagora
Cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass, stopping at the UNESCO-listed kasbah village of Ait Ben Haddou. UNESCO describes it as “a striking example of the architecture of southern Morocco.” Continue through Ouarzazate and the palm-filled Draa Valley. Visit the historic kasbah of Tamnougalte and prehistoric rock engravings at Foum Chenna. Settle into a traditional Zagora kasbah for the night.
Zagora → M'hamid → Erg Chigaga
Visit the silversmiths of Amezrou and the pottery ovens of Tamegroute, home to the historic Nassiria Library. Leave the paved roads behind for the Erg Chigaga dunes, arriving by camel as the sun sets. Settle into your luxury desert camp for a night of stargazing and traditional music.
Erg Chigaga Adventure
A full day in the Sahara. An off-road excursion crosses dunes, plateaus, and rocky outcrops, followed by a picnic lunch at a shaded oasis. A second camel trek carries you to a high dune for sunset. The evening brings music, storytelling, and dinner under a clear desert sky.
Erg Chigaga → Foum Zguid → Tazenakht → Taroudant
Watch the sunrise over the dunes, then cross the dry salt flat of Lake Iriki. Meet local nomads along the way. Rejoin the paved road at Foum Zguid and pass through Tazenakht, known for Berber rugs and handmade textiles. Arrive in Taroudant, "Little Marrakech," for the night.
Taroudant → Agadir → Massa Park → Mirleft → Legzira
Explore Taroudant's souks and city walls, then head to the coast via Agadir and Sidi Ifni's silver workshops in Tiznit. Visit Massa National Park to spot the endangered Bald Ibis. Its Moroccan colonies hold the world's last viable wild population, according to BirdLife International. Continue along the coast to Legzira for a beachfront overnight stay.
Legzira → Sidi Ifni → Legzira
A relaxed day at Legzira Beach, known for its natural rock arches. One of the beach's original twin arches collapsed in 2016, an event reported by The Guardian. The remaining arch still frames the shoreline today. Swim, surf, or simply unwind on the sand. Visit Sidi Ifni's Art Deco architecture before returning for another peaceful evening by the sea.
Legzira → Tiznit → Agadir → Marrakech
Return to Marrakech via the scenic Tizi n'Test Pass, passing olive groves, terraced fields, and mountain villages. Arrive by early afternoon with time to explore the souks once more. Close your Morocco deserts and beaches tour with a final evening in the Medina.
