Hiking & Camel Trekking Tours in the Sahara Desert
Tailor-made desert expeditions into Erg Chigaga, guided by two brothers raised among its dunes — walked, ridden, or camped exactly the way you want to experience it.
Who Leads Your Trek
Two brothers, one desert, no shortcuts
Ismail and Mustapha grew up in M’Hamid El Ghizlane, the last village before the open Sahara, among camel herders and caravan trails. Morocco Meander is the family-run company they built from that upbringing — and every trek we plan is still shaped by people who know this desert as home, not as a route on a map. Read more about our story.
We don’t run one fixed tour. Every desert trekking in Morocco trip into the Erg Chigaga Desert is built around who’s travelling: your dates, your fitness, your pace, and how deep into the dunes you want to go. The two itineraries below are starting points, not the limits of what we can arrange.
Whether you choose camel trekking in the Sahara desert or prefer covering ground on foot, our trekking Sahara desert routes follow the same ancient caravan paths our family has walked for generations — past hardy Sahara flora and fauna and through landscapes few travelers ever reach. These are not one-off excursions but genuine nomadic tours in Morocco, and every one of our Morocco Sahara desert camel trekking tours and camel trekking tours in the Sahara desert can be shortened, lengthened, or rebuilt entirely around you.
How A Trek Is Built
Your route, your pace, your camp
Every Sahara trek we arrange is assembled from the same set of real choices — where you join us, which gateway you enter the desert from, and how your nights in the dunes are set up. Here is how those pieces fit together.

Caravan trekking
Walk or ride alongside a dromedary caravan led by nomadic herders. Camels carry the tents, food and water, and a new camp goes up in a new stretch of dune each evening — the classic way to cross Erg Chigaga.
Fixed camp + 4×4
Settle into one or two comfortable desert camps and take shorter guided walks or dune excursions from there, with a 4×4 vehicle on hand for transfers, supplies, and support — a gentler pace for the same dunes.
Two Starting Points
Trekking itineraries to build from
Both trips below can be shortened, extended, or rearranged around your dates — and either one can depart from Marrakech, Ouarzazate, or Agadir.
Walking With Nomads in Morocco, Erg Zehar Sands
An on-foot trek shared with Morocco’s indigenous nomadic families across the Erg Zehar dune country — slower, quieter, and built around real time spent with the people who live there.
Camel Trekking Morocco, Erg Chigaga Sahara Desert Expedition
A camel-supported crossing through Lake Iriki National Park to the largest dune sea in Morocco, following the caravan paths that traders used for centuries. Camp moves each night, deeper into Erg Chigaga.
