Morocco Uncovered is eight days built around contrast: the ochre kasbahs of the south, the medieval alleys of Fes, the cedar forests above Azrou, and the indigo streets of Chefchaouen, all before a final look at the Atlantic in Casablanca. It moves the way Morocco itself does — quickly between landscapes, slowly through its towns.
You'll cross Ait Ben Haddou and the Dades Valley, ride into the dunes of Merzouga for a night under the stars, and spend unhurried days in two of the country's most storied cities. Day by Day
Eight days, one continuous route — the south, the Sahara, the Imperial Cities, and the coast.
Marrakech → Ait Ben Haddou → Ouarzazate → Dades Valley
The road south opens with Ait Ben Haddou, the UNESCO kasbah familiar from a dozen film sets, then continues to Ouarzazate, gateway to the desert and home to the Atlas Studios. The day ends in the Dades Valley, where Berber hospitality and a starlit sky wait at your kasbah.
Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Rissani → Merzouga
Leave the rock formations of Dades for the towering cliffs of Todra Gorge, then pass through Erfoud, known for its fossil workshops, before the road gives way to sand. By late afternoon you're in Merzouga, ready for a camel trek into the dunes and a night in a desert camp.
Merzouga → Azrou → Fes
Watch the sun rise over Erg Chebbi before the long, scenic drive north through the Ziz Valley Gorge and the mountain town of Midelt, at the foot of Jbel Ayachi. The route continues through the cedar forests near Azrou, home to a resident troop of Barbary macaques, arriving in Fes by evening.
Fes Sightseeing
A full day inside Fes El Bali, the oldest of Morocco's four Imperial Cities and still largely unchanged. See the Bou Inania Medersa, the Kairaouine Mosque and its 9th-century university, then cross into Fes El Jdid for the Museum of Moroccan Arts in the afternoon.
Fes → Volubilis → Chefchaouen
Cross the Saiss Plain to Volubilis, Morocco's richest Roman archaeological site, where mosaics and standing columns remain remarkably intact. From here, the road climbs through the Rif Mountains toward Chefchaouen, arriving as the town's blue-washed walls catch the evening light.
Chefchaouen Sightseeing
A full day on foot through Morocco's most photographed town. Wander the tangled, Andalusian-influenced medina, browse handicrafts and leatherwork along the blue alleyways, and settle into the unhurried rhythm of Plaza Uta El Hammam beneath the Kasbah.
Chefchaouen → Casablanca
The road turns west to the coast and Casablanca, where the Hassan II Mosque, the largest in Africa, is open for a guided tour of its courtyard and prayer hall — a striking close to the inland leg of the journey.
Casablanca → Marrakech
A final drive south through the Moroccan countryside, back to Marrakech — dropped at your riad to rest, or transferred directly to the airport for your onward flight.
